Several features link the readings. The first is the annunciation of childbirth. In the parashah, Abraham is at Mamre when he sees three visitors and immediately extends hospitality to them. Immediately thereafter, the patriarch receives the divine promise that “at the same season [la-moʿed] next year [ka-ʿet ḥayyah]” Sarah will have a child (Gen. 18:14; cf. v. 10). There is no statement that the annunciation to the barren woman is a reward for hospitality;
